TANAKPUR

Tanakpur is situated in the Champawat district of Uttarakhand, in the Terai-Bhabhar region of Kumaon. Tanakpur is only 3kms from the Indo-Nepal border and the hills of Kumaon region commence from Tanakpur. At an elevation of 837 ft above sea level, it is amongst the few places of Uttarakhand which has railway connectivity with Bareilly. Tanakpur has been emerging as a business town of the Kumaon region because of its close ties with the Nepal border, Kumaon and Uttar Pradesh. Tanakpur is a well-connected town with major transportation facilities. Buses to Tanakpur are easily available from Delhi, Bareilly, Haldwani, Pithoragarh and many other destinations.
 
Tanakpur lies on the riverside of Sharda. NHPC has set up a Hydro Power Station on the river at Banbasa, near Tanakpur producing 120 MW, also giving us a major tourist destination in the form of Banbasa range.It is also a matter of huge significance that the literacy rate of Tanakpur is more than the literacy rate of India.
