SITLAKHET

“The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quite alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature. As long as this exists, and it certainly always will, I know that then there will always be comfort for every sorrow, whatever the circumstances may be. And I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles.”

― Anne Frank, the Diary of a Young Girl

Sitlakhet, located about 24 km from the Queen’s Meadow 'Ranikhet', is one of the lesser known destination in the Kumaon region of the state of Uttrakhand. It is part of the district of Almora and proudly sits at an elevation of 1900 meters above sea level on the Syahi Devi Hills. It is regarded as one of the offbeat destination as it is lesser known as compared to much talked about Nainital, Bhimtal and Almora. The USP of the Sitlakhet is its splendid view of the regal Chaukhamba peaks of the Himalayan range.

The extravagant range is awe-inspiring as the sun kissed mountains provide bliss to one’s soul. The region is also flourishing with vegetation and fauna. The rhododendrons make the terrain scarlet providing a treat to the travelers’ eyes. It is a must visit destination for nature lovers who look for peaceful times away from the commercial city spaces and sometimes populated hill station during the peak visiting season. Bestowed with hilly terrain, it is also a much sort after site for trekkers and climbers. It is also a desirable site for picnic opportunities and creating family fun times.

Sitlakhet also has the sacred Syahi Devi Temple atop a compact hill. It is at a distance of 3 km from Almora and is easily approachable from Sitlakhet. There are several hotels and resorts at Sitlakhet that are well facilitated with modern amenities. The tourists can also plan their stay at the KMVN Tourist Rest House Sitlakhet located at a distance of about 24 km from Sitlakhet.
