NAUKUCHIYATAL

In the first years of the 1820's the British were gradually discovering Kumaon. A Jesuit Missionary by the name of Bishop Hybber found himself at the Himalayan foothills during his journeys in the Northern part of India. He reached Naukuchiyatal via Kalichaud after crossing the Gaula River near Haldwani-Kathgodam. The route taken up by Hybber had been witness to some major events in the history and politics of Kumaon including the battle with the Rohillas. There are several historical landmarks in and around Naukuchiyatal to be explored by the inquisitive souls.
