NANAKMATTA

 
 The Gurudwara lies on the Rudrapur -Tanakpur route. Nanakmatta was previously known as Gorakhmatta but was changed to Nanakmatta when Guru Nanak Dev visited the place in the 16th century. It holds a lot of significance as it is believed that Guru Nanak, the first Sikh Guru visited this place to mediate. The destination is a host to tonnes and thousands of pilgrims who come here to offer their deliverances and pay respects.
 The town is also known to be popular because of the construction huge Nanakmatta Dam built across Saryu River. The Nanakmatta Dam is a delightful spot offering umpteen opportunities for picnic and excursions. Being a religious destination, the two of the major destination in the area are the Nanakmatta Gurudwara and the adjoining Nanak Sagar Lake. The dam that is built on the Nanak Sagar is also frequently visited by the tourists throughout the year. One can also travel to nearby places such as Sitarganj and Khatima, however they are known to be commercial towns.
