MANILA

“We know that God is everywhere; but certainly we feel His presence most when His works are on the grandest scale spread before us; and it is in the unclouded night-sky, where His worlds wheel their silent course, that we read clearest His infinitude, His omnipotence, His omnipresence.”

― Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre

Manila is located about 87 km from Ranikhet in the Almora district of the state of Uttarakhand. It is believed to be the native place of Manila Devi, the family/clan goddess of Katyuri dynasty. Maanila village located near Ranikhet in Almora district is probably named after the temple of Maanila Devi. There are two temples dedicated to the deity main temple referred as Talla Maanila is located in the village itself and other temple called Malla Maanila is located on the upper reach at about 6 km distance from village. It is said that the Malla Maanila temple has the hands of Goddess and there is an interesting folklore behind the establishment of this temple.

It is a much lesser known place which is at an altitude of 1,820 meters. The village falls under the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. The two popular tourist destinations Ramnagar near Jim Corbett is located about 75 km from Manila and Marchula, near the banks of Ramganga River is only at a distance of 45 km from Manila.

Manila is uniquely blessed as a natural haven. Its beauty lies in the simple joys that Mother Nature bestows upon us. Of course the breath taking and utterly imperial views of Trishul, Panchachuli, and Nanda Devi peaks are part of the grace that Manila adorns. The dusk and dawn period of the day are truly gripping experiences. The Sun and the Moon bounces on the hues that the shifting of the day offers. The traveler is swept off its feet under the changing shifts that Manila skies offer.

The best time to visit is throughout the year as the weather at Manila remains pleasant. Travelling to Manila is fun in any season because of its picturesque route and delightful terrains.
