KASHIPUR

The city of Kashipur is one of the historically rich provinces  as one can study in the ruins of the Harsha period that are evident from the presence of the Govisham fort, the Tumaria dam and the ancient temples of Kashipur. At Kashipur one can visit the ancient Drona Sagar Lake created by the Pandavas as an offering or ‘Guru Dakshina’ to Guru Dronacharya, their teacher.  Currently, the excavation site at Drona Sagar is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India.
Kashipur was ceded to British in 1801, after which, it played a major role in the conquest of Kumaon during the Anglo-Gorkha war in 1815. After the region of Kumaun was ceded to the British under the Treaty of Sugauli, Kashipur became the headquarters of Terai district in the Kumaon division.
As it is one of the prime industrial towns in the state, it has some of the main industrial estates located such as the Balaji Industrial Estate, Bheem Nagar Industrial Estate, Omega Industrial Estate and IDEB Industrial Estate.  Kashipur is the only city of Uttarakhand which has an Indian Institute of Management, a public business school. It is one of the thirteen Indian Institutes of Management which the government has set up during the Eleventh Five-year Plan.
